Mercury ‘Ultimate Free Power Day’ Terms and Conditions
This is a competition, run by Mercury NZ Limited, for a chance to win your Ultimate Free Power Day – on us! We will bring your Ultimate Free Power Day idea to life and will work with you to organise, manage and produce this day, in your home (the “event”). Refer to entry and eligibility criteria below.
The following terms and conditions ("Terms") outline the specifics of the competition and entry process. By entering our “Ultimate Free Power Day” promotion (the "Promotion"), you agree to these terms & conditions.
1. The Promotion
- The Promotion runs from 12:01 am on the 1st February 2026 to 11:59 pm on the 31st March 2026 ("Promotion Period").
- By entering this "Mercury Ultimate Free Power Day" competition, you are in to win your Ultimate Free Power Day.
- The winner will be selected based on the creativity, ambition and feasibility of the entry. If you win the competition, Mercury will pay to produce and fulfil your Ultimate Free Power Day, as close to your entry as feasibly and practically possible.
2. The Prize
- The Prize is a one-day (24 hour) immersive experience staged at the Winner’s residence. We will develop this experience based on the winning entry idea, and will work with the winner to bring this idea to life in their home – within the realms of feasibility and practicality as determined by Mercury.
- The Prize includes as necessary: event planning, production equipment, setup/pack-down, and power usage for event equipment required to bring the prize to life. The Prize does not include pre-existing power bills, home renovations, permanent installations or upgrades unless expressly stated.
- The Prize is not transferable, not exchangeable, and not redeemable for cash. If any element becomes unavailable or unsuitable, Mercury NZ may substitute a comparable experience of equal value.
- The exact details of the experience will be defined by Mercury NZ once the Winner has been selected.
3. Entry & Winner Eligibility
- To enter the competition, go to www.mercuryfreepowerday.co.nz and complete the entry form.
- To enter, participants must complete a written description of what their Ultimate Free Power Day would look like, and may use the assistance of the integrated AI tool to help craft their entry. This must be completed during the Promotion Period.
- By entering, participants consent to data collection and processing as set out in clause 14 (Privacy).
- Eligibility criteria:
- Open to all adults in New Zealand aged 18 and over.
- An entry may be completed on behalf of individuals or groups under 18 (such as family/whanau groups), but the person submitting the entry must be over 18.
- You can only enter once.
- Must live in a standalone home (no apartments).
- You must own the home, or have evidence of the express consent of the property owner.
- Must be comfortable with Mercury capturing filmed content from the event and using this content for promotional purposes.
- Must have a clean criminal record (minor driving fines acceptable).
- You cannot nominate someone else, or use someone else’s details to enter the competition.
- Mercury employees, contractors, employees of agencies associated with Mercury, and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter.
- With your permission, we may identify and use entries as part of our promotional activity. Your entry being featured in any promotional material is no indication that your entry will be shortlisted and does not suggest any greater likelihood of winning the competition.
4. Winner Selection
- Once entries have officially closed on the 31st March 2026, Mercury NZ will create a shortlist and choose a winner via a judged panel.
- The judging panel will be made up of staff from Mercury NZ, and our agency and production partners.
- Once the competition has closed, there will be a shortlisting phase. During this phase we may ask entrants to provide further information (such as images or a video showing their home and family) and/or entrants may be interviewed by our production partners, before we make our final decision.
- Entries will be judged based on the following selection criteria:
- Creativity & Storytelling: Unique, emotive or entertaining household
- Ambition: Energy and enthusiasm that bring the idea to life
- Feasibility: Suitable for filming and the “Ultimate Free Power Day” setup
- The Winner will be selected on the 27th April 2026. The Winner will be notified via email or phone within 7 business days of the decision. If the Winner cannot be contacted, fails to respond, or is unable to meet verification or consent requirements within 7 days, the Prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner may be selected.
- Once the prize has been accepted by the winner, we will commence planning and pre-production for the event.
5. Contingency Planning
- The event date will be agreed between Mercury NZ and the Winner, subject to safety, local rules, and operational constraints. Mercury NZ may reschedule the event within a reasonable timeframe if required.
- We will develop a contingency plan with the winner based on the successful winner's experience. This may include changing the date of the event or making alterations to the event based on weather or other mitigating factors.
6. Attendees
- All attendees for the event must be approved in advance by Mercury NZ and production partners, and may be required to undergo background checks including a criminal record check (minor driving offences are fine).
7. Property Access, Suitability & Restoration
- The Winner must ensure safe and clear access to the residence for pre-installation, event delivery, and pack-down within agreed timeframes.
- A pre-event safety assessment is mandatory.
- The residence must be structurally and operationally suitable.
- After the completion of the event, Mercury NZ’s production company will restore the residence to the same state it was in beforehand.
- Access may be required several days in advance to facilitate the production of the experience. In this event, residents may need to be temporarily accommodated at a suitable and reasonable location offsite while setup is occurring. This will be agreed upon with the winner and be covered at Mercury’s expense.
8. Safety, Compliance & Permits
- The event will be delivered in accordance with applicable laws, bylaws, and safety standards.
- The Winner and all event attendees agree to comply with noise restrictions, event permits, parking and traffic management, fire and emergency egress, and any other legal requirements or instructions from production staff.
- Mercury NZ may modify, limit or withdraw elements of the event to ensure safety and legal compliance.
9. Talent, Content & Intellectual Property
- The winner, their friends and family or any other person appearing will not be paid for their appearance in any content captured as part of their experience.
- Mercury NZ owns or controls all event audio-visual materials, photographs, and recordings created by or for Mercury NZ.
- By accepting the Prize, the Winner grants Mercury NZ a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free licence to use the Winner’s name, suburb, image, and event content for promotional purposes across all media.
- Other approved attendees on the day are subject to the same terms.
10. Liability
- To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- (a) Mercury NZ is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of enjoyment, or personal items;
- (b) liability for direct damage to property caused by Mercury NZ or its contractors is limited to restoration to the same state as before the event;
- (c) Mercury NZ is not responsible for damage arising from Winner or other guest actions, pre-existing conditions, or third-party acts outside its control.
11. Winner Responsibilities
- The Winner must ensure safe, lawful use of the residence during the event, secure pets away from production areas, ensure minors are supervised, and follow staff instructions at all times. Mercury may terminate or curtail the event in case of unsafe or unlawful behaviour.
12. Changes, Cancellation & Substitution
- Mercury NZ Limited is the promoter of this Promotion and may modify these terms and conditions at any time without notice. Mercury reserves the right to cancel, suspend or change the Promotion or any element of the Promotion for any reason, including any cancellation, suspension or change necessitated by any event outside of Mercury's control.
- If the Winner cancels within 7 days of the agreed event date without a valid reason, the Prize may be forfeited. If delivery is impossible due to force majeure, Mercury NZ may offer a rescheduled date or comparable substitute at its sole discretion.
13. General Promotion Terms
- Mercury NZ’s decisions on all matters relating to the Promotion are final. Mercury NZ may disqualify entrants for fraud, manipulation, or breach of these Terms and conditions.
